Robbers Rape Nurses In Lagos - PUNCH
Some robbers have raided a Lagos hospital on
Santa Maria Street, in the Egan, Igando area of
Lagos State.
It was learnt that after carting away valuables of
patients, they also raped an 18-year-old auxiliary
nurse in the hospital.
The incident happened around 4am on Thursday.
PUNCH Metro was told that it was the third time
the robbers would attack the hospital in a year.
It was learnt that the robbers stormed the hospital
around 3am, scaling the fence before gaining
entrance.
They also reportedly overpowered a 19-year old
security guard in the hospital and tied him with
ropes before locking him up in a room.
A source said the worker on night duty were
attacked and injured and when the robbers failed
to make appreciable looting, they resorted to raping
the auxiliary nurse in turns.
He said, “The girl was actually the one who went to
the police station to report. She accused the
management of the hospital of dereliction of duty
and said she was raped by the men.
“She also alleged that the owner of the hospital did
not provide adequate security for his workers and
subjected her to mental torture by losing her
virginity through rape.”
He added that the medical director of the hospital
was arrested, but later released on bail.
The hospital’s medical director, Dr. Ademola
Dominic, confirmed the incident to our
correspondent, but said the victim was not raped.
He also said he was never arrested by the police.
He said, “It is an everyday affair here. The robbers
come to the street almost every time to rob
residents. It is the third time they would come to
the hospital. They came in and dispossessed
patients of their valuables.
“When the incident happened, we took her through
some tests and discovered she was intact. She is
still a virgin and nothing happened to her. It is just
that as a young girl, she suffered some shocks
and that is all.
“But if you heard she was raped, well, maybe she
was a victim of circumstances and that obviously
was not my fault. If I have a house and robbers
raid my house and then rape somebody, is that my
fault?
“I am doing all these because of the girl. And if it is
her parents or anybody that spreading wrong
information, I don’t think I am to blame. I have
already tried my best.”
He said security had been beefed up in the area to
forestall a recurrence.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Kenneth
Nwosu, said he was not aware of any incident at
the hospital.
In a text message, he said, “We have no such
case.”
